What is the ruling on preventing the wife's family from entering the marital home and visiting their daughter, if the husband was expelled from his in-laws' home due to problems, while he allows his wife to visit her family regularly?

Scholars differed regarding a husband preventing his wife's family from visiting her in his home. The Shafi'is and some Hanafis held that prevention is permissible but disliked. The Hanbalis and Malikis, and this is the sound opinion among the Hanafis, held that it is not permissible.

However, it is better to allow visits, responding to ill-treatment with forgiveness and pardon, as 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said about the Prophet's (peace be upon him) character: "But he would pardon and forgive." And due to His (Allah's) saying: "Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Repel (evil) with that which is better."

However, if harm or discord is feared from the visit, there is no sin in preventing it to avert harm. One must remember the sacredness of shunning and severing ties between Muslims, especially among relatives and in-laws, and the obligation of reconciling differences, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Reconciling differences, for discord is the shaver. I do not say it shaves hair, but it shaves the religion."
