What are the limits of a man's enjoyment of his wife with whom the marriage contract has been concluded, but before consummation, and what is the difference in rights between the spouses before and after consummation?

If a valid marriage contract is concluded, the wife becomes permissible for her husband, and they are allowed to enjoy each other. It is customary, however, that consummation does not take place until the matter is publicized and the feelings of the wife's family are considered. Marital rights do not differ before or after consummation, but the wife or her guardian has the right to refuse consummation unless the mahr (dowry) is paid. After the mahr is paid, the wife is not allowed to refuse without a valid excuse; otherwise, she would deserve the curse of Allah.
