What is the ruling regarding a woman who disclosed her husband's secret and then regretted it, knowing that if he finds out, he might divorce her? And what is the ruling regarding someone who disclosed something her husband had warned her not to disclose, saying: "If you do, you are neither my wife nor do I know you," even though she regretted it and fears the consequences of telling him?
"A wife's searching into her husband's private affairs is forbidden spying. She has done well by regretting it, and she must make sincere repentance. She should have concealed her husband's wrongdoing. As for his statement, 'If you do it, you are neither my wife nor do I know you,' this is a conditional divorce expressed in an allusive phrase. The divorce takes effect upon the fulfillment of the condition, if the husband intended divorce with that phrase. Since the condition upon which the divorce was suspended has been fulfilled, she must inform him of what she did so that he may know whether he intended divorce or not. If he did intend it, and this is not the third divorce, he can take her back as long as she is within her waiting period (')."
