What is the wisdom behind the prohibition of a husband approaching his wife during menstruation and postpartum bleeding, and is intercourse permissible with a barrier if the reason for the prohibition is the impurity of the blood?

Allah has forbidden sexual intercourse with one's wife in the vagina during menstruation because it is a harm, as stated in the Holy Quran. Scientific studies have revealed aspects of this harm: it leads to increased bleeding, rupture of blood vessels, and easy scratching of the vaginal wall, which increases the risk of infections for both the wife and the husband. The uterus is sore and susceptible to microbes, and infections may extend to the fallopian tubes and the urinary system. Furthermore, a woman's psychological and physical state during menstruation does not permit intercourse, as she suffers from pain, depression, headaches, and a decrease in sexual desire. The harm may also be transmitted to the man, causing him infections and infertility. The prohibition is not only due to blood but also to many other harms. A Muslim must comply with Allah Almighty's command to refrain from intercourse during this period. A man is permitted to enjoy his wife in ways other than vaginal intercourse.
