What is the ruling concerning a maternal aunt, ninety years of age, whose mind is sound, but who neither remembers Allah nor prays, and knows nothing but insults, bearing in mind that she was like this before she injured her leg?

If the woman is sane and has abandoned prayer, she is in grave danger; because the predominant opinion is that abandoning prayer is major disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam. She must be advised to hasten to repentance. If abandoning prayer and bad conduct occurred after her affliction, it is hoped that this is due to a loss of consciousness. Whatever the case, one must continue to advise and guide her.
