The answer

There is no harm in selling two items together, like dates and potatoes, for a single price, as long as the items sold are known by description or by sight. It is a condition that the price must be in cash.

However, if the mixture is sold for dates, it is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, because dates are one of the usurious commodities, and it is a condition that there be equality and immediate possession when selling usurious commodities of the same type, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt—like for like, equal for equal, hand to hand. If these types differ, then sell as you wish, as long as it is hand to hand."

Some scholars, such as the Hanafis and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, have permitted this if the single usurious item is more than the other item accompanying it, and the increase corresponds to the other item. This is the more preponderant opinion.
