How can one deal with parents who frequently quarrel over trivial matters, with one of them cursing the Divine Being and the other uttering obscene words, which affects the children's ability to honor and be dutiful towards them?

Children must be patient with their parents, show them piety, and treat them kindly, especially in their old age. Even if there are disagreements or tensions in the home, that does not negate the obligation of piety. The evidence for the obligation of honoring parents and the prohibition of disobeying them does not exclude cases of tension or domestic strife.

Even if one of the parents curses the Divine Being—which is an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith—that does not negate the obligation to honor them, based on the Almighty’s saying: "But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness."

Children should strive to reconcile their parents and advise them to abandon verbal prohibitions, especially cursing the Divine Being, because holding them accountable for it is part of the duty of honoring them. However, the jurisprudence of holding parents accountable must be observed.
