Is it permissible to recite Quranic verses without "tajweed" when quoting them in speech?
The reader of the Qur'an must recite it with its rightful recitation, correcting its words and letters as the imams received them from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. What is obligatory from Tajwid is that which preserves the letters and prevents alteration of the meaning. As for what is beyond that, such as assimilation (idgham) and concealment (ikhfa'), it is supererogatory (mustahabb), and its ترك (abandonment) does not entail sin, according to the preponderant opinion, because hidden لحن (melodic error) does not disturb the meaning and does not result in punishment.
