Is the story of Tha'labah and the revelation of Allah’s words: "And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah..." (the verses) authentic, taking into account that he was called "the pigeon of the mosque"?

What has been narrated regarding the reason for the revelation of the Almighty’s saying: (And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty…") concerning Tha'labah ibn Hatib, its chain of narration is not authentic. And Tha'labah ibn Hatib was an Ansari who participated in Badr and was martyred on the Day of Uhud. This story is weak and has no validity, and it contradicts what is known by necessity in religion, which is that Allah accepts the repentance of the repentant from any sin.
