Is the story of the Tashahhud dialogue, mentioned in the journey of the Mi'raj, authentic, which includes the Prophet's saying: "All greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah," and Allah's reply: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings," then the Prophet's saying: "Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," and Jibreel's or the angels' saying: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"?

The story that the origin of the Tashahhud was during the Prophet's Mi'raj (ascension), or that he uttered it while prostrating at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha), has no basis in Islamic law. The correct account is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught the Tashahhud to Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with the wording: "All compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." This is the most authentic narration proven from the Prophet (peace be upon him). It is incumbent not to disseminate messages whose content is not verified, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "It is enough a lie for a person to narrate everything he hears."
