Must one fulfill a promise to a person who died before the promise was fulfilled?

Fulfilling a promise is recommended by the majority of scholars and obligatory according to some, and avoiding breaking it is required. If you promised a person to give them money and they died before you fulfilled the promise, you are not obligated to fulfill the promise after their death nor to give the money to their heirs, because a gift is not owned except by possession, and the money was not yet possessed. However, giving it to their heirs is better.
