Is it permissible to wipe over one's shoes after taking them off and praying in them, then perform ablution and wipe over one's socks, then put the shoes back on, and if the ablution is broken, consider that they were put on in a state of purity from wiping over the socks?

Most scholars believe that if one wipes over his sandals and socks, then removes the sandals, his ritual purity becomes void. However, some, including Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, hold the view that removing that over which one has wiped does not invalidate ritual purity. But even according to this view, it is not permissible to wipe over it again after removing it.

The jurists have explicitly stated that if one removes the upper khuff (leather slipper/sock), he must also remove what is beneath it. Thus, it is not permissible to continue wiping over the socks after removing the sandals. If he removes his socks and performs ablution, then invalidates his ablution, it is not permissible for him to wear sandals and wipe over them. Rather, he should wipe over the socks that he put on while in a state of complete purity with water. If ritual impurity occurs before putting on the upper khuff, he should not wipe over it; rather, he should wipe over what is beneath it.
