What is the ruling on naming children with names such as Sundus, Istabraq, Ayah, and Malak, and is it obligatory to limit names to those of the Companions, or is it permissible to take names from the Quran?

It is sunnah to name the newborn on the seventh day or on the day of birth. It is also sunnah for the name to be good, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, you will be called on the Day of Resurrection by your names and your fathers' names, so make your names good." The best names are "Abdullah" and "Abdul Rahman," as he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the most beloved of your names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdul Rahman." It is inferred that it is desirable to name with any good-meaning name, such as the names of prophets and the names of Paradise. It is disliked to name a girl "Malak" (angel) because it contains a commendation, and it is disliked to name with the names of angels. It is preferable to name children with the names of prophets, righteous people, and companions. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to change an ugly name to a good one.
