I want to name my son, so what are the Islamic guidelines for that?

Names are important as they are a person's title and adornment. The default rule for them is permissibility. However, it is necessary to avoid names that denote servitude to anyone other than Allah, names exclusively belonging to Allah, names exclusive to disbelievers, and names of idols.

It is disliked to use names with bad or ridiculed meanings, soft and sensual names, names of wicked people with the intention of imitation, names associated with sin and disobedience, names of Pharaohs, names of despised animals, names prefixed with "Din" (religion) or "Islam," or any of Allah's names other than "Abdullah" (servant of Allah). Similarly, names prefixed with "Rasul" (Messenger), names of angels, and names of Qur'anic surahs are disliked.

The best names are: Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman, then other names denoting servitude to Allah, then names of Prophets and Messengers, then names of the Companions and the righteous, then every good name with a correct and beautiful meaning.

It must be taken into consideration that a name accompanies a person throughout their life, and it should be chosen to suit all stages of their life. The father has the right to name, and it is recommended to consult the mother. Attributing a child to their father is obligatory, except in cases of zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), in which case the child is attributed to their mother.
