Is buying an expensive gold ornament permissible or forbidden, when a third of its price has been paid in installments and before it is made and seen, and what is the solution if it has already been made?

It is not permissible to sell gold on installment, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: «Do not sell gold for gold except like for like, and do not prefer one part over another; and do not sell silver for silver except like for like, and do not prefer one part over another; and do not sell something absent for something present out of these». The sale of gold for money requires immediate قبض (seizure/possession). It is not permissible to delay the possession of either of the two exchanged items. The solution is to annul the first contract and reclaim the money, then purchase with a new contract with immediate possession, or to buy a specific amount of gold and pay its price immediately, then give it to a craftsman to fashion it for a known fee.
