Did the Companions get bored (fed up) in their era?

Boredom and weariness are natural occurrences that afflict the human soul. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to regularly admonish his companions for fear of them becoming weary. One should not say, "My soul has become wicked," but rather, "My soul has become hardened." The afflictions that befall all human souls are an expiation for sins. Moreover, joking and jesting are beloved to the soul and inspire activity, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to joke with his companions and family.
