What is the ruling on the supplication of the oppressed against the oppressor, even if the oppressor is one of their relatives?

It is better for the wronged person to be patient and forgive the oppressor, based on His (Allah's) saying: "So whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah," and "But whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination," and "and that you pardon is nearer to righteousness." If the wronged person wishes to claim his right, he may retaliate against the one who wronged him without aggression, based on His (Allah's) saying: "And whoever avenges himself after being wronged - those have no cause for blame." It is permissible for the wronged person to supplicate against the oppressor, as it has been reported that some of the predecessors supplicated against those who wronged them, such as the supplication of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas against the man who accused him. Nevertheless, forgiveness and overlooking remain better, especially if the wrongdoing was unintentional, and if forgiveness does not encourage the oppressor to persist in his wrongdoing.
