Generally, parents are responsible for raising their children with a sound Islamic upbringing. If the school has a religious character that is not Islamic, or if its curriculum serves a non-Islamic religious agenda, then it is not permissible to enroll children in it, for fear of affecting their faith and morals. Caution must be exercised regarding these schools run by non-Muslims, especially Christians, as their role is often proselytizing and aims to erase Islamic identity. If there is no alternative, homeschooling can be resorted to, while connecting children with mosques, Quran memorization circles, and religious education. It must be noted that worldly sciences are beneficial and are among the communal obligations (fard kifaya) that Muslims must learn.
