The answer

The fundamental principle is the equality of men and women in legislation, religious obligations, recompense, honor, rights, and duties, as confirmed by His exalted sayings: "And He it is Who has produced you from a single soul" (Quran 6:98); "And We have certainly honored the children of Adam" (Quran 17:70); "So their Lord accepted their prayer, [saying], 'Indeed, I do not allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another.'" (Quran 3:195); and "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used used to do." (Quran 16:97). This is also affirmed by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Indeed, women are the counterparts of men."

Should there be a difference in some legislative rulings, it is due to the differing psychological and physical characteristics of each, in order to suit their respective roles and ensure their eternal happiness. The legislations of Islam are compatible with the nature of both men and women, because they originate from the Wise, the All-Aware: "Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the All-Aware?" (Quran 67:14).
