Does placing cream or oil on the hair invalidate ablution when wiping over it, and is it permissible to draw an analogy to wiping over socks? Is it a condition that wiping a third of the head be from the front, or is it permissible to wipe from the back to avoid disheveling the hair?

The ruling on wiping over oily hair has been previously clarified in Fatwa (definition) No. 32741. Oil or cream is not analogous to socks. The ruling on wiping over part of the head has also been mentioned in Fatwa No. 46770. Those who permitted wiping over part of the head did not specify the forelock, but they stipulated that the hair being wiped should not extend beyond the head's boundaries, as that is what is commanded to be wiped. Al-Shirazi said in Al-Muhadhdhab: "If someone has a forelock that has fallen down, and he wipes what has descended from it below the head, it is not sufficient for him."
