What are the consequences for someone who unintentionally breaks an item in the marketplace, returns it to its place, and then leaves?

What happened to you falls into two categories:

- If you took the item to inspect it with the owner's permission, and it fell from you without negligence or carelessness, then some scholars hold that you are not liable to guarantee it.

- If the item did not require turning over and inspecting, or you took it without the owner's permission, then you are liable for it, and you must inform the owner of what happened.

It is preferable to return to the shop owner and inform him of what happened in any case, because the display of goods in shops today is considered customary permission for inspection and turning over. Customary permission is treated the same as verbal permission.
