Should I continue my engagement to a person who is quick to anger, angers his mother, and is extravagant, or should I withdraw from it?
This man is a stranger to you. Do not speak with him except out of necessity, with politeness and modesty, and in the presence of someone who prevents seclusion. It is not permissible to exchange laughter with him, or to be in seclusion with him, or to allow him to look at you, for engagement is a promise of marriage, not marriage itself.
Find someone for this man to advise him on how to treat his mother well and obey her. His refraining from speaking with you is better for you, as there is no relationship between you except under the shadow of a legitimate marriage.
To decide whether to annul the engagement or keep it: you must perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance) and consult those of sound judgment among your relatives who are aware of your situation and his.
