How can one get rid of sadness and feelings of inadequacy due to not living in Mecca and praying in the Haram, despite being convinced that staying in one's country to spread the da‘wah is better?

If you engage in spreading da'wah (inviting to Islam), teaching people, and advising them, whether in your country or other Muslim lands, this work of yours holds a greater reward than residing in the Haram. This is because the benefit that extends to others (mutaa'addi) is superior to the benefit that is confined to oneself (qaasir), as the scholars have stated.

Correcting one's intention and making it sincerely for Allah Almighty in this work is important, for da'wah to Allah and teaching people are among the noblest and best acts of worship. Allah chose the prophets and messengers for this work and made their followers their inheritors. Allah Almighty says: "And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, 'Indeed, I am of the Muslims.'"

As for residing near the Haram (Makkah and Madinah), it is commendable provided there is no strong presumption of falling into something Islamically reprehensible. Some scholars have even gone further, stating that residing in the Two Harams is not commendable, fearing a shortcoming in observing their sanctity or committing sins therein, because a sin committed there is not like a sin committed elsewhere. It has been reported that Ibn Abbas said: "What do I have to do with a land where evil deeds are multiplied just as good deeds are multiplied?" The Kuwaiti Fiqh Encyclopedia mentioned that some jurists, including Abu Hanifah, consider residing in Makkah al-Mukarramah and Madinah al-Munawwarah to be disliked.
