What is the ruling on photographic and video imaging (especially digital computer imaging) of people for keepsake, and this includes: Imaging men. Imaging veiled women with their faces showing without adornment. A husband imaging his wife and saving the photos digitally with a password without printing them. Using a webcam for video conversations between محارم (unmarriageable kin). And is television broadcasting considered imaging? And what is the ruling on watching beneficial programs, news, and sports matches while adhering to lowering the gaze, not watching forbidden things, and not missing acts of worship? And is watching matches under these conditions haram (forbidden) or makruh (disliked)?

It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image," and "The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers." The reason for the prohibition is imitating Allah’s creation. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on photographic imaging (photography); some have forbidden it due to the generality of the texts, while others have permitted it because it is merely capturing a shadow and not imitating Allah’s creation. When scholars differ, it becomes a matter of doubt. Using a webcam for video calls between mahrams does not fall outside this disagreement, nor does television broadcasting. Watching beneficial programs and news is permissible, provided one lowers their gaze and does not neglect acts of worship.
