Is the destiny of the sinful Muslim who thinks well of God and strives against himself toward Hell, based on the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah will order Adam, peace be upon him, to bring forth from every thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine, and that is the multitude for Hellfire"?

The fear of Allah Almighty due to knowing His greatness, and one's sins and shortcomings in fulfilling His rights, is an obligation. However, this fear must not reach the point of despair from His mercy. Despair from Allah's mercy is a lack of etiquette and ignorance of His mercy which preceded His wrath, and it includes the certainty that one is among the people of Hellfire. Allah Almighty said in a Hadith Qudsi: "I am as My servant thinks of Me: if he thinks good of Me, then it is for him, and if he thinks evil of Me, then it is for him."

Moreover, knowing the vastness of Allah's grace, forgiveness, generosity, and mercy necessitates hope that one will be among the people of that mercy, without reaching a feeling of security from Allah's cunning. A Muslim maintains moderation in their journey to the Hereafter by combining fear and hope. They worship their Lord, obey Him, and perform good deeds with hope, and they abandon disobedience out of fear.

Allah has encouraged His servants towards His mercy and grace, and warned them against His punishment. Therefore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If the believer knew what punishment Allah has, no one would hope for His Paradise. And if the disbeliever knew what mercy Allah has, no one would despair of His Paradise."

The believer also combines, along with fear and hope, love for Allah Almighty. For whoever worships Allah with love alone is a zandaq (heretic), whoever worships Him with fear alone is a Haruri (Kharijite sect), and whoever worships Him with hope alone is a Murji' (sect believing faith is sufficient without deeds). But whoever worships Him with love, fear, and hope is a true believer. Fear, hope, and love are what preserve Allah's limits and by them, those who reach Him succeed. When the heart is devoid of these three, it becomes corrupted, and whenever any of them weakens, faith weakens accordingly.
