What should I do with my husband who has returned to drinking alcohol after a period of commitment, especially since we have two daughters? What is the ruling on my refusal to be intimate with him while he is intoxicated? Should I stay with him or ask for a divorce, given my fear for my daughters of family disintegration?

The husband should be advised to abandon alcohol and repent to Allah, and to leave bad companions who harm him in his religion and worldly life. He should hasten to repent before it is too late, for a life of obedience is better than a life of disobedience, which causes distress in sustenance and heart.

The wife should be advised to repent for disobeying her father in marriage and to be patient with her husband, and that what befell her is Allah's decree. It is explained that hardship in sustenance may be due to the husband's disobedience. It is not permissible for her to refuse intimacy with her husband unless she is harmed by being intimate with him while he is drunk. As for seeking divorce, it is permissible for her if the situation is as described, but it is advised not to resort to it until all other means have been exhausted. She is advised to be patient and supplicate for his guidance.
