Is the marriage considered legitimate if it takes place without the knowledge of the parents or children, with the testimony of three of the husband's friends, and without paying a dowry to the wife?

The majority of scholars hold the view that a marriage contract without a guardian (wali) is invalid, and this is the most preponderant opinion based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Any woman who marries without the permission of her guardian, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid," and his saying: "There is no marriage without a guardian and two just witnesses." The Hanafis disagreed with this, but their opinion is weak and outweighed. Therefore, the aforementioned marriage is invalid, and remaining with the husband is forbidden. It must be annulled and renewed through the guardian.
