The question

What is the ruling on the Friday Ghusl (ritual bath), and is it necessary to wash the private parts and what is washed in Ghusl al-Janabah (ritual bath for major impurity) as part of it? Does it become invalid by leaving a small part of the body unwashed? Is it necessary to wash the hands twice in Ghusl al-Janabah? And what is the ruling on Tayammum (dry ablution) for the Friday Ghusl or its Wudu (ablution)?

The answer

The Friday ghusl (ritual bath) is recommended, and its description is like that of ghusl al-janaba (major ritual impurity bath). The minimum sufficient for it is the intention and covering the entire body with water after removing any impurity, if present, while paying attention to washing the navel. As for the mouth and nose, their washing is obligatory according to the Hanafis and Hanbalis. The complete ghusl includes saying "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah), washing the hands three times, then the private parts, and performing wudu' (ablution) like the wudu' for prayer. Then, one should pour three handfuls of water over the head to moisten the roots of the hair, followed by pouring water over the rest of the body with rubbing, starting with the right side then the left. It is preferable in an obligatory ghusl to perform wudu' before it, and ghusl suffices for wudu' because the minor impurity is encompassed by the major one. However, in a recommended ghusl, wudu' must be performed either before or after it. Washing the palms before washing the private parts with the intention of it being a sunnah of wudu' is not sufficient. Whoever is in a state of impurity and lacks water for the Friday prayer should perform tayammum (dry ablution) for the impurity, and it is recommended for them to perform another tayammum for the Friday ghusl, although one tayammum is sufficient for both.
