Is it incumbent upon me to fast or offer expiation, after I fell ill for four consecutive years and did not fast?

The sick person is excused for delaying the fast, and he must make up for it after recovery. This is a facilitation from Allah. However, if doctors determine that the illness is incurable, then he must feed a poor person for each day. Similarly, the elderly man and woman who are unable to fast must feed a poor person for each day. The amount of food to be given is half a sa' of the staple food of the land (approximately one and a half kilograms). Whoever is awaiting recovery is not required to feed anyone; rather, he waits until Allah cures him, then he makes up for the missed fasts, even if it is after several years. He is legally excused and is not required to offer expiation.
