Is it obligatory to re-fast the expiatory fasts that the questioner observed without knowing the obligation of feeding, and is fasting sufficient for him if he is currently unable to feed but can raise money later, and should he stop fasting to provide the feeding if money becomes available during the fast?

If the person liable for expiation is able to feed the poor at the time of breaking an oath, then fasting is not sufficient for them, and the expiation remains an obligation until they are able to feed. This is the view of the Shafi'is and Hanbalis. As for the Hanafis and Malikis, they hold that what matters is the time of performance, so fasting is sufficient if one is currently unable to feed. If one begins fasting and then becomes able to feed, they are not obliged to switch to feeding. Feeding is done by giving ownership to each poor person of one mudd of food (approximately 750 grams of rice), or its equivalent. The obligation of expiation is waived for a minor who has not reached puberty.
