What is the ruling on a girl removing hair from her face, and will she be held accountable for doing so without knowing it is forbidden? Is it permissible to peel the eyebrows if they are very thick and resemble a man’s eyebrows, bearing in mind the hadith of cursing regarding plucking (namṣ), and fearing the harms of peeling?

The preponderant view is that it is permissible to remove facial hair except for the eyebrows. Plucking the eyebrows is disliked, but it is permissible to shave or trim them, according to the Hanbalis, and Imam Ahmad himself did so. If the eyebrow hair grows excessively, causing harm or embarrassment, then there is no harm in trimming and reducing them. And whoever commits a forbidden act unknowingly is excused, unless their ignorance is due to their negligence in learning what is obligatory upon them.
