What is the difference between space (al-Fadaa') and the heaven/sky (al-Samaa'), and is space created or non-existent?

The word "sky" (السماء) linguistically refers to everything above us. It includes rain, as in His Almighty's saying: "Or like a rainstorm from the sky," the roof, and the well-known sky that Allah made a protected roof, as in His saying: "And We made the sky a protected roof." As for "space" (الفضاء), it linguistically refers to emptiness and a wide expanse. Recently, it has become common to use "space" to refer to what is between the sky and the earth. Some contemporary scholars believe that the sky which the Sharia encourages us to contemplate is the visible space.
