It is forbidden to whiten the body permanently, as it involves altering Allah's creation. However, temporary whitening that disappears with washing is permissible. It is also permissible to change the color of a tattooed area to resemble the body's natural skin tone, because tattooing is allowed if it is done to remove a temporary defect.
