What is the ruling on one who misses Friday prayer three times consecutively due to sleep, and does this result in a seal upon his heart or disbelief? And what is the authenticity of the hadith: "Whoever intentionally misses Friday prayer three times, Allah will seal his heart"? And is the intended meaning of the seal severe repentance and not apostasy?

It has been authentically narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that whoever abandons three Jumu'ahs out of negligence or without necessity, Allah will seal his heart. Some scholars are of the opinion that the abandonment here must be consecutive. Sealing the heart means it is stamped and deprived of divine graces, and ignorance and hardness are instilled within it. This sealing does not necessarily entail disbelief; rather, it is a warning for both the Muslim and the disbeliever. Sins cause a black spot on the heart, and if the servant does not repent from them, they increase until they cover and overwhelm the heart, which Allah Almighty called "al-Rayn" (seal). Whoever intentionally misses the Jumu'ah prayer must repent to Allah Almighty and pray it as Dhuhr.
