If a man dies and leaves behind two parents, a wife, three daughters, and siblings, then each of his parents receives one-sixth of the inheritance due to the presence of a lineal descendant, based on Allah's saying: "And for his parents, each of them one sixth of what he left if he had a child." His wife receives one-eighth due to the presence of a lineal descendant, based on Allah's saying: "But if you have a child, then for them is one eighth of what you leave." His three daughters receive two-thirds, based on Allah's saying: "But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of what he left." The siblings receive nothing, as they are excluded by the father. This case is 'awl (a legal term where the shares exceed the total), and it is corrected from 81 shares. Thus, the father receives 12 shares, the mother 12 shares, the wife 9 shares, and each daughter 16 shares. It is necessary to consult the Sharia courts in matters of inheritance due to the existence of wills, debts, or other rights that take precedence over the heirs' rights.
