What is the ruling on purchasing a house with usury out of necessity, in the absence of Islamic banks and with limited income? And are there any scholarly interpretations regarding this issue?
We have previously clarified the impermissibility of purchasing a house with an interest-based loan as long as it is possible to do without it by renting. In this regard, we relied on the words of Allah Almighty: (O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal – [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged), and His words: (And He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, except what you are compelled to [eat or use]), and the hadith of Jabir: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the consumer of usury, its payer, its scribe, and its two witnesses." We have also explained the invalidity of other conflicting ijtihads.
