Is a young man's marriage to an older woman without the approval of his father—who refuses the marriage for un-Shar'i reasons such as age difference, people's opinions, and the disapproval of his siblings—considered disobedience to parents, especially since the young man wishes to complete his religion lawfully and fears for himself from temptation?

It is recommended to supplicate and entreat Allah to facilitate the father's approval for marriage to the aforementioned woman, if she is pleasing in her religiosity and character, and to seek the help of respected figures to influence him. The age difference is not a legal impediment. If the father refuses for no legitimate Shar'i reason, his obedience is not obligatory, especially if harm or temptation is feared. However, preferring the father's contentment by seeking someone else might be better, as Allah Almighty says: "And perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you."
