Why does one's psychological state worsen despite commitment, repentance, and continuous use of psychiatric medications?

The disobedient may be afflicted with illnesses and a constricted life as a punishment and a reminder for them to repent, in accordance with His Almighty's saying: "And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, for him will be a constricted life" and "And We will surely let them taste a minor punishment, before the greater punishment, that perhaps they will return." The cure for these afflictions lies in sincere repentance, seeking refuge in Allah, increasing good deeds, keeping the company of people of faith, and attending mosques and gatherings of knowledge. Also, quitting stimulants may cause anxiety and tension, which will disappear with patience and seeking Allah's help. A daily program is recommended, including studying the Quran and Hadith, and there is no harm in consulting a psychiatrist.
