Is what afflicted me after commitment magic or psychological distress, and can I return to what I was?

The questioner is advised to continue repenting, to sincerely turn to Allah, and to supplicate frequently, while maintaining congregational prayers and consistently performing the prescribed remembrances (adhkar). This is based on Allah’s saying: "And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed," and His saying: "And seek help through patience and prayer." Supplication benefits both what has descended and what has not descended. There is no objection to ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) or consulting trustworthy psychiatrists.
