How can I emigrate to God?

The true emigrant is he who abandons what Allah has forbidden. Emigration to Allah and His Messenger, by performing what is commanded and abandoning what is forbidden, is an individual obligation at all times. It is what Allah demands from His servants. Ibn Al-Qayyim clarified that emigration includes the heart's emigration from loving, worshipping, fearing, and hoping in other than Allah, to loving, worshipping, fearing, and hoping in Him. This is the meaning of His (the Almighty's) saying: {So flee to Allah}. A servant must undertake this emigration to escape the enemy's stratagems. He must emigrate to Allah by performing obligatory and supererogatory acts, abandoning forbidden and disliked things, rectifying his heart with the love, fear, and hope of Allah, and subjecting all his affairs to the law of Allah.
