Will the needy and the poor take from the good deeds of those who did not pay zakat on the Day of Judgment, or will the failure to pay it only result in sins? And will his withheld money be considered unlawful wealth, making him one of those to whom the hadith applies: "Every flesh that has grown from unlawful wealth, the Fire is more befitting of it"?

The Quran and Sunnah indicate that the one who withholds zakat will be punished on the Day of Judgment with the very wealth he withheld. His forehead, sides, and back will be seared with it, and the wealth will appear to him as a bald, venomous male snake coiling around him. As for the poor taking their right from his good deeds, there is no clear evidence for this. The wealth of the one who withholds zakat is not inherently forbidden; rather, the obligation of zakat is a personal liability.
