How can one recover from the pain of a broken engagement, which causes severe distress and affects the ability to recite the Qur'an?

All matters are in the hands of Allah the Almighty, and He distributes provisions among His servants with profound wisdom. A Muslim must be content with Allah's decree and destiny, turn to Him alone, and avoid despair and whispers (of Shaytan). There may be good in what we dislike, and perhaps what happened is a hidden blessing. Allah the Almighty said: {But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not} [Al-Baqarah: 216], and His saying: {No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things} [At-Taghabun: 11]. And whoever is afflicted with a disaster and knows that it is by Allah's decree, and perseveres and submits, Allah will guide his heart. The believer's affairs are all good: if adversity strikes him, he perseveres, and it is good for him; and if prosperity strikes him, he is grateful, and it is good for him.
