What is the legal ruling on drinking infant formula manufactured with pig enzymes that have been completely eliminated, given the availability of alternatives?

The fundamental principle concerning treatment with unlawful or impure substances is prohibition. Therefore, anything that contains an unlawful or impure ingredient is impermissible to use, except in two situations: first, if the impure substance has transformed through istihalah (chemical transformation) before being added; and second, if the impure substance is added to another material, and then this mixed material transforms into something else. While the use of such items is permissible through istihalah, it is better to avoid anything doubtful and opt for what is lawful and pure if alternatives are available. It is not permissible for a Muslim to intentionally process parts of a pig with the aim of transforming them for use. The aforementioned permissibility relates to the use of what is already manufactured and exists. If no permissible alternative is found, the extent of the need should be considered and weighed against the criteria of Islamic law.
