What should one do if they wore sewn garments during Umrah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Wearing sewn garments is forbidden for a pilgrim in a state of ihram. If someone does so intentionally, they owe a fidyah (expiatory sacrifice), which is fasting for three days, or feeding six needy people, or sacrificing a sheep. As for someone who does so out of forgetfulness, Malik and Abu Hanifa held that the fidyah is obligatory, while Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq were of the opinion that it is not obligatory. However, in cases of necessity, the Malikis hold that the fidyah is optional, and this is the more preponderant view due to Allah’s saying: "And if any of you is ill, or has an ailment in his scalp, he must pay a fidyah of fasting or charity or sacrifice."
