Is it permissible to name a female newborn "Rūḥ" (Spirit), and is it reprehensible?

The name "Rūḥ" (with a ḍammah on the rāʾ) means the spirit that resides in human bodies, and this is its predominant meaning in the Qur’an and Sunnah. As for "Rawḥ" (with a fatḥah on the rāʾ), it means a gentle breeze. There is no objection to naming with either of these names, as there is nothing objectionable in their meanings. The basic principle regarding names is permissibility, and there is nothing that prohibits naming with them. Rather, it is a name that applies to every human being. The social acceptance of this name should be taken into consideration.
