Is the husband entitled to claim the full dowry if he was the cause of his wife's aversion to him, and he excelled in humiliating and beating her, and preventing her from visiting her family?

It is not permissible for a man to harm his wife in order to take back what he has given her of dowry, this is based on the Almighty's saying: (and do not constrain them that you may take away part of what you have given them).

The scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of taking her money unless the disloyalty and corruption of conjugal life originated from her.

If the woman wishes to separate from her husband without any disloyalty on her part, then it is permissible for him to take a ransom from her in exchange for the divorce, and it is better that the ransom does not exceed what he paid her as dowry, as in the story of Thabit ibn Qays.
