Does the right to honor one's parents fall away, and is it permissible to supplicate against him and raise one's voice at him if he mocks religion and those who are committed to it, describes the words of Allah and His Messenger as "trash," prevents his son from religious commitment, and plots to have him arrested?
We ask Allah Almighty to relieve your distress and guide your father. It is important to note several points related to your question that are beneficial for your situation:
1. Some fathers prevent their children from religious commitment out of fear for them of deviation or worldly harm. Children should consider this and build trust with their parents. 2. It is not permissible for children to cause their parents to utter words of slander and insult against religion. Some unwise questions or statements may provoke the father to reactions that harm his faith. 3. You are not obligated to pick up papers thrown in the street. Islamic law does not mandate this as an obligation, unless it is without difficulty. 4. Children must be mindful of the media pressure on parents concerning extremism and demonstrate good manners and speech to prove the falsehood of what they hear. 5. If your father is an apostate, you must treat him gently and kindly, hoping for his guidance, and do not raise your voice at him. 6. You are permitted to detest your father's actions and to leave the house if your continued presence negatively impacts your righteousness. Otherwise, remaining is better for the benefit of your siblings and mother.
As for your father, we say:
1. Fear Allah concerning yourself, for some of your words are clear disbelief, such as insulting the words of Allah and His Messenger. 2. It was your duty to encourage your son towards obedience, righteousness, and commitment with righteous people. 3. It is not permissible for you to order your son to commit a sin, such as shaving his beard, nor to seek to harm him or imprison him. 4. It is not permissible for you to oppress your wife or mistreat her, for Allah has commanded to treat her with kindness.
We call upon the father to repent and reform his words and actions, and we call upon the son to be patient and wise in dealing with his father and guiding him to good.
