What is our obligatory stance toward a father who harms people and uses obscene language, knowing that we honor him and fear God regarding him, and what should we do concerning those affected by his actions?

The right of a parent is great, and honoring him and accompanying him with kindness is obligatory, no matter his condition. It is not permissible to abuse him or raise one's voice at him. Rather, he must be enjoined to good and forbidden from evil gently and courteously, without harshness or violence. Parents are not like others in enjoining good and forbidding evil. If the son sees his father doing something he dislikes, he informs him without violence, abuse, or harshness in speech; otherwise, he leaves him alone. Among the greatest advice given is to maintain prayer. It is recommended to seek Allah's help and frequently supplicate for the parent's guidance. The parent should be warned against harming people and assaulting them, and effort should be made to prevent him from doing so without causing harm or being harsh. If the parent harms someone, the son apologizes on his behalf, knowing that the father is responsible for his actions, and that "no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another" (Al-An'am: 164), and "a wrongdoer harms no one but himself."
