What is the religious ruling on a wife who fabricates slanders and swears false oaths in court to facilitate her divorce and obtain her entitlements? And is it permissible for the husband to use cunning to prevent her from taking what she does not deserve, without displeasing Allah?

A wife's false accusation against her husband in court is forbidden, as Allah the Almighty says: "And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly borne a slander and a manifest sin," and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All of a Muslim is inviolable to another Muslim: his blood, his wealth, and his honor." It is advised to forgive and pardon her, and to meet evil with good, as Allah the Almighty says: "And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?" If the wife shows defiance (nushooz) and wishes to separate from you without cause, you are permitted to prevent her from divorcing until she ransoms herself from you. It is not permissible to respond to her lies or false accusations with treachery or falsehood, but if you need to use stratagem or insinuation to obtain your right, then there is no harm in that.
