If a woman is divorced before consummation, she is entitled to half of the mahr (dower), as stated in the Almighty's words: "And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have already specified for them an obligation, then [give them] half of what you specified." If the increase [in value] is separate (like an offspring), the increase belongs to the woman. However, if it is connected (like weight gain), the woman is given the choice between receiving half of the mahr with the increase, or receiving half of its value on the day of the contract.
